It's almost summer and we've already had some warm weather, hopefully it's a sign of things to come. This month we've been taking a look at statement pieces and how you can transform any room in your home with either a vintage or more modern piece.

It takes time to choose the right one, after all it has to fit in with your décor, and the colour scheme, so it's worth thinking it over before you buy. That one well thought out piece is all you need to change the overall look, or just to give your room that extra something that will be the centre piece of your home, and get oohs and aahs of appreciation from family and friends.

    Tom Jones Billiard Table
A beautiful and elegant Full Size Billiard Table made by 'Burroughes & Watts' c1900 and formerly in the ownership of the singer Tom Jones (or Sir Tom as he now is!).
This table is made in finest quality mahogany and is classically decorated with carvings and swags in the Adam style. It is completely original in construction and benefits from the 'steel vacuum cushions' for which the London makers Burroughes & Watts were renowned. These tables were and remain the finest tables in the world on which to play Billiards & Snooker, and being superbly constructed they will give pleasure for many generations to come.

The table has been restored in recent years and is complete with a beautiful matching cupboard/scoreboard which stands some 163cm wide x 190cm high but only protrudes 30cm from the wall so is very compact. The table was located at Sir Tom Jones's home in St. Georges Hill, Weybridge between 1967 - 1974 and is illustrated on the record sleeve of his album 'She's A Lady', with Sir Tom posing alongside the table. The cupboard/scoreboard can be seen in the background.

A most magnificent Billiard/Snooker table with a fine provenance.

Boer War Horse Hoof Walking Stick

This walking stick was recently acquired as part of a job lot at an auction in the Midlands. The stick is inscribed 'Beoren Kamp Ceylon 1901' and was made by a POW held at Diyatalawa Hill Station in Ceylon then part of India now Ski Lanka.
The shaft is of a local wood and the handle from horn carved into the shape of a horses hoof with attached shoe. Although the POW's received better rations than soldiers serving on the front line they were allowed to make objects to sell to buy tobacco and other luxury's. The workmanship is of real quality and a leading world auction house has provided an auction estimate of over £2000 if sold by them in a specialist sale.
