So we are almost halfway through autumn and as its November 1st we invariably start thinking about Christmas. What will we buy our loved ones? Friends, aunts, uncles? If we know our friends and family really well, then it’s not really that difficult, or is it?
What do you buy everyone at Christmas? I suppose it’s about paying attention all year through and making sure we take note of the occasional wish, a compliment, a passing sentence that gives you those all important clues. It’s not often you can find a gift that will grow in value over time, most gifts have a limited usefulness until they’re either used up and there’s nothing left of it, it wears out or it’s no longer safe to use. Everything has a time limit, especially technology. You buy something as a gift one Christmas, and the next thing you know it’s been replaced by a new, thinner, faster version.
Antiques – big or small, always the perfect gift Thankfully with antiques that’s not the case, it’s the only gift that really does keep on giving, it may not be the all-important collector’s item this year, but who knows, by next Christmas it could have doubled in value. That’s the beauty of a buying an antique potential collector’s item for a loved one, it’ll never wear out, it’ll never go out of fashion and it’ll never stop working.
But hang on – November is still here
Don’t forget that November is here and of course we have Guy Fawkes to look forward to. It’s a great way to spend time with the family and you can really make a night of it. But don’t forget there are too many accident each year due to fireworks, so please keep a vigilant eye on the young ones.
If you are starting your search for Christmas gifts now, www.antiques.co.uk always has fresh offerings on its home page each day, week and month. There’s bound to be something to catch your eye, something small and delicate, something with exquisite detailing, or something that you know your other half has always wanted.
If it’s not a time to indulge loved ones I don’t know when is. Take a look at the categories on the left hand side of the home page there’s everything there from antiquities to miscellaneous. In-between that, you’ve got furniture, nautical items and musical pieces. Whatever your partner or children is into there’s bound to be something here that will be right on the money.
Children’s toys There’s also a section on children’s toys, they may not be suitable for very young children, especially due to the materials they’re made of, much of which wouldn’t be used today. However, for older children, they may be the perfect start for a new collection. It doesn’t just end there either, it could be the start of their own website, Facebook page or Pinterest, Tumblr or Instagram site. A hobby shared with others is a great way of starting new networks of friends. http://www.antiques.co.uk/antiques/categories/antique-toys
So there you are, that’s it for this month. Enjoy November and make sure you keep track of time, Christmas will be upon us before you can turn around!
