vintage pair of burr walnut bedside chests cabinets with slides 20th c

This is a beautiful pair of Georgian Revivalburr walnut chests with slides, dating from the mid 20th Century.

The chests are masterfully crafted from gorgeous burr walnut. The tops are crossbanded with feather inlay, they each have four drawers for convenient storage and they each have the useful addition of a slide in each.The drawers are oak lined, a sure sign of quality, and they are fitted with decorative cut card brass handles.These chests are very versatile and wouldlookequally good in the bedroom as bedside chests or in the lounge as end tables / chests at either end of your sofa.

Burr Walnut
refers to the swirling figure present in nearly all walnut when cut and polished, and especially in the wood taken from the base of the tree where it joins the roots. However the true burr is a rare growth on the tree where hundreds of tiny branches have started to grow. Burr walnut produces some of the most complex and beautiful figuring you can find.
