vintage 6ft flame mahogany chippendale revival pedestal desk 20th c

A large and impressive Vintage flame mahogany Chippendale Revival pedestal desk dating from the late 20th Century,The rectagular top islined with an inset caramel brown leather writing surface which features hand tooled gilded decoration. This desk features three drawers across the frieze with a single drawer above a double depth filing drawer to each pedestal. The drawers are oak-lined and the brass "drop" handles add elegance to this sumptuous desk.

The desk is beautifuuly framed with canted hand carved fret columns to each corner and the rear is fitted with a decorative modesty panel.
There is no mistaking the sophisticated quality and design of this desk and it is sure to receive the maximum amount of attention wherever it is placed in your home.

Thomas Sheraton-18thcentury furniture designer, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany."The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.
