An exceptionally finely carved large shell cameo in a; beautiful Victorian 15ct (tested) mount with terminal scrolls. The subject represents Flora, the ancient Italian goddess of flowers. Her festival was celebrated, according to Hall''s Dictionary of Subjects and Symbols in Art ''with much licentiousness'' and Cupid. She is scattering flowers, and he holds a basket of flowers.
