A monkey in a top hat. What does it mean? We don't know - only that the Victorians were lovers of novelty jewellery, of which this is an example. Almost certainly English, a solidly made brooch testing as 18ct gold, made around 1890, and with the monkey standing on a 0.40 carat old-cut diamond. Height: Height 2 1/4 inches: 57 mm
