Circa 1825, good Scottish George IV mahogany 4 door breakfront cabinet bookcase. The classical top has concave and convex mouldings over a fine beading and flame mahogany frieze. Beneath this are 4 glazed doors with their original glass and geometric astragal glazing. Inside are 4 adjustable shelves with rounded and polished mahogany facings in each section. At the wings of the outer doors are 2 full length fluted and tapering columns in full relief, embedded into the sides. At the base is a small flat section with a veneered fore edge, and two columns similar to the top. There are 4 doors with fielded panels and a triple reeded beading with an invert on each of the corners. The veneers are very stylish; almost plum pudding mahogany. Inside on the right are 3 drawers with original handles. On the left hand side and in the centre cupboard is a removable shelf. The whole piece stands on an enclosed plinth. Good example of a Scottish bookcase of its period.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
