Regency period Dated 3 compartment Mahogany Tea Caddy with original key C.1816
An early 19th. century rectangular box of architectural form veneered with figured mahogany inlaid with mahogany,ebony and boxwood. The box resting on four carved rosewood ball feet. A boxwood and figured mahogany inlay on lid. Inlaid ivory escutcheon. Inside original 3 compartments with mahogany lids and boxwood finials. Remnants of original tin lining in compartments. Inside the lid is an "A L" inlaid monogram made with different veneers. A replacement white porcelain mixing bowl is a later addition just like the silver plated caddy spoon. Original lock and key present. (Working,lockable). On one of the removable containers an inscription and date: " A Laufer" (?) "1816" (or 1846?) This can be a mark by the original owner. The caddy itself is from the Regency period.
Condition: In excellent antique condition. This has not been refinished. Pictures doesn't do justice as the colour of the veneer is much lighter and it has an excellent original patina.Images taken with a flash.It has had a tiny bit of woodworm round the stringing at the bottom at sometime which has long gone . Measures approx 10.5" inches by 6.5" inches 6" inches
