A William VI Rosewood Dining Table with the Six Rosewood chairs attributed to Gillow.The table has a sunburst top of eleven triangular panels radiating from the centre supported on an elegant sturdy tripod base with large lion paws. 132cm diameter(52inches) The chairs are attributed to Gillow.The company was founded in Lancaster and the furniture was a byword for quality and exquisite carving. The chairs would originally have had cane seating with cushions slotting in to the top An example of this was the six chairs of similar design sold at auction by Littletons in March for £2,600 plus £530 commission. Further examples can be found on the Web for only the chairs including a BADA dealer offering six similar chairs for £3,750
The chairs are carved with leaves and berries and the legs feature a cluster of leaves above fluted columns.
