A rare piece of Oddfellows friendly society pottery dating to the mid nineteenth century. The two handled tankard is of typical form in body and is decorated with mauve transfers in geometric patterns. The central cartouche contains a humorous poem relating the Oddfellows, one of the earliest friendly societies. The inside of the tankard contains two newts crawling up the interior. The whole is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and only some slight discolouration to the interior. C.1850.
