Circa 1930, fine pair of oak concave curved back side tables by Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh. The unusual 3 drawer side tables are supported on lyre ends with a large cross stretcher and stand on 4 squat carved pad feet. These tables must have been a commission due to their unusual style and shape, perhaps originally for a curved room. There is a reflection of the Art Deco period about the tables, which ties in with the time they were made. Note the curved shape of the feet and handles. The lyre end and feet are characteristics of Whytock & Reid. A very rare pair of tables of this period. Because of the collaboration between the company the architect Sir Robert Lorimer there must have been an overlapping of ideas and styles. Even though these are Whytock & Reid pieces they are reminiscent of the Lorimer style.
