Circa 1880, unusual pair of Victorian oak hall chairs, with an architectural pediment on top with various carvings and a stylish finial in the centre. There is a solid section beneath this with diamond carving, and a rectangular centre panel with variations of scratch carving, carved roundels and a large foliate flower head in the centre. This is held in position by cross stretchers and two uprights, with reeded carving on them. There is a large, shaped seat, with chamfered corners. At the sides and the front, there is a simple deep apron. The back legs are square and outswept. The front legs are square, tapering, and finish on unusual stylish toes. Both chairs are clean and sturdy.
