Original Gilt-Framed & Signed Oil Painting on Board 'January' by Norman James Battershill (Brit. 1922-2010)

Norman James Battershill was a painter, designer, teacher and author, born in Hackney, London and the son of an artist, Leslie Battershill. He attended Twickenham College of Art and has shown at the Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Oil Painters and Pastel Society of all of which have elected him a member. He has also exhibited at Royal Academy of Arts and New English Art Club and was made a Fellow of Society of Industrial Artists and Designers and the Chartered Society of Designers in 1968. In 1989 he won the ROI’s Stanley Grimm Award. Among Battershill’s instructional books were ‘Painting & Drawing Water’ from 1984 and ‘Learn to Paint Trees’ from 1990. When the present work was painted, he was living in Abbotsbury, Dorset.

It's an atmospheric work in the gloomy light of a January day with a weak sun struggling to make an appearance and what I take to be a flooded field, rather than a pond, in the foreground

    Frame 48.5cm x 60cm (19" x 23.5") & Depth 4cm (1.5")
    Picture 35.5cm x 47.25cm (14" x 18.5")

This is an original artwork, probably dating from around 1960-80 but, board & frame are in good, clean & sound condition.
