Inlaid Maple box from the mid-late 1800’s in very good condition. Possibly of French origin. Unspoilt patina, Boulle style inlaid cartouche comprising of ornate etched brass with two varieties of contrasting veneer. The box stands on the original turned wooden ‘ball’ feet. No missing or replaced inlays or veneer save for one filled TINY chip less than half the size of the end of a standard pencil at the bottom edge of the left side; this does not detract from the item and can only be seen upon VERY close examination. Cross grain veneered bevelled edges to the lid and all four verticals, giving the box an attractive profile and providing contrast in colour and grain direction. Original hinges and lock with a replacement working key supplied. Double locking lock mechanism. The box interior features all of the original lining. All of the satin covered ‘buttons’ to the lid and base section are original and complete. Retaining hoops to the lid interior for sewing or manicure items are all fully intact….quite a rarity to find in such condition. Other than the replacement key every part of this box is original and obviously has had very little use. A nice example of the style and period.
