Circa 1890, exhibition quality mahogany cylinder bureau, by Waring & Gillows. The cylinder has a central fielded panel with matching flame mahogany. This is held in place by a beaded panel with foliate carving on each of the corners, and surrounded by crossbanding. This opens to reveal a stylish fitted interior, with a sliding section in the front with three leather panels. The central panel lifts up. Above this are several pigeon holes, drawers with ring pull handles and an inlaid cupboard in the centre. The fore edge has carved gardrooning, and this continues around the sides with a foliate carving on the corner. The sides of the desk have raised polished fielded panels, as does the back. There is a combination of a central drawer and four drawers either side with flame mahogany panels and circular handles. Beneath the bottom drawer is a stylish moulding, and the whole piece stands on bracket feet.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
