    DESCRIPTION:
     
    A truly delightful original signed Pencil and Gouache Portrait Drawing of the fabulously pretty 'Becky Sharp' who was the main character of William Makepeace Thackeray's satirical novel 'Vanity Fair' (1847-1848)
     
    The magnificent little work was pencilled in 1908 by (RA) Royal Academy Of Arts listed, Punch & Vanity Fair Magazine illustrator:-
     
    'Lewis Christopher Edward Baumer' (1870 - 1963).
     
    The work portrays a beautiful smiling Miss Sharp, who is wearing her a gorgeous Edwardian dress together with her most prized pendant neckless.
     
    Her hair is immaculately prepared and designed in a bun, with a large white floral hair tie keeping her locks beautifully in place
     
    In her hands is a period hand fan, a fashion accessory of the era.
     
    Baumer has put great attention to detail into this most charming work.
     
    Signed by the artist and titled/dated Verso 1908, the original Drawing has been mounted in a contemporary modern glazed gilt frame.

    Lewis Christopher Edward Baumer (August 8, 1870 – October 25, 1963)[1] was an English caricaturist who worked for more than fifty years for the British magazine Punch.

    Baumer was born at St John's Wood, London, England, and had studied at the St John's Wood Art School under A. A. Calderon, at the Royal Academy of Arts, and at the Royal College of Art. His first drawings appeared in the Pall Mall magazine in 1893; in 1897, his first cartoon in Punch appeared.[2] In 1921, he was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours
