A high quality French large timepiece carriage clock by renowned maker, Joseph Soldano c1870. Retailed by West & Son, Dublin. Elegantly proportioned brass corniche case with cast handle. Bevelled panels and oval top window displaying its original silvered, jewelled lever platform escapement. Pristine white enameled dial with black roman numerals and minute ring with blued steel moon hands. Platform engraved JS on its upper-side and Soldano on underside. Engraved script and arrow on backplate with serial number 723 (also on platform and on components throughout in its movement and its case). Supplied with double-ended brass key. Height is 12.5 cm excluding handle (16.5 cm with handle), width is 8.5 cm and depth 7.5 cm. Excellent time-keeper. The combination of maker and retailer making this a very desirable piece.
Fully cleaned and serviced but retaining its antique brass patina. The clock's movement is covered by a 6-month warranty in the UK.
This clock is in excellent condition. No chips or cracks to the enamelled dial or beveled glass panels. No damage to the brass case which retains a lovely antique brass patina. Please see images as these form an important part of the description.

Soldano was awarded medals for his carriage clocks at both the 1855 and 1878 Paris Exhibitions where the quality of his escapements was particularly singled out for praise. Soldano supplied Dent's amongst other renowned makers and retailers.
Until its closure in 2010, West & Son had been one of Eire's oldest firms. Founded in 1792 it had supplied Queen Victoria with watchers and jewellery - with pieces still held in the Royal Collection today.
