This Indian Ivory piece has been dated pre 1947, and therefore is legal to sell and own. The base appears to be a solid piece that is a hexagonal design. This has been carved in a circle pattern, around the entire edge. Above that, the design returns to a circular shape. The carving continues with a "fluted" type pattern that in turn leads to the main body of the piece. This is a six sided design that is very smooth to the touch, and slightly tapered in. This section houses the mercury thermostat and the temperature scale is engraved to the side. There is also the additional engraving that offers an explanation to the heat level, from freezing to fever heat. The compass section returns to the circular design, and is wider than the straight lines of the body. Again, the base of this piece also has some circular type of design pattern etched on the body. It incorporates a paper disc, with the compass directions written onto it. This is housed in a glass dome, which does not appear to have any cracks or defects. This dome can be removed as it is not fastened in any way. This appears to be the design that it has always been.
