Fine quality ladies vanity /dressing box in good condition made during the mid 1800’s. Unspoilt patina with even colour and grain. Inlaid triple pewter bands to the top and front with Mother of Pearl cartouche and escutcheon. Top closes square and true. Impressive interior with gilt embossed top edges to the tray and rear dividers complementing the gilt edging to the lid interior and gilt embossed ‘frame’ to the drop forward velvet panel. To the back of the panel is a ‘love letter’ envelope that is in excellent condition. Removable tray with additional storage space beneath. All of the four lids feature embossed velvet tops; three with Mother of Pearl knobs with the largest lid having hoops to retain manicure accessories. The manicure items include a matching set of three featuring hallmarked solid silver handles and top for the nail ‘buffer’. All four storage sections beneath the lids have the remains of the original foil lining. The other two velvet sections comprise of a needle wallet and padded pin cushion. Four ‘open’ sections containing jars comprising of two matching pairs. All glass is in very good condition with some wear through of the original silver plated tops. Original hinges and lock with a working key supplied (A tad fiddly but DOES work). A fine piece of early Victorian woodenware.
