Antique Hogarth: A Midnight Modern Conversation State 3 (Boydell/Heath edition 1822

The print shows a scene in a private room in a tavern, depicting eleven figures in varying states of drunkenness. The scene is comparable to plate 3 of Hogarth's A Rakes Progress, made around the same time, although the male company populating A Midnight Modern Conversation contrasts with the prostitutes accompanying Tom Rakewell in A rakes progress.

Paulson Plate 128 and commentary at pages 84 onwards

Condition report
This print is mounted on rough cut 1/16" grey card. It was framed on acquisition by me but it had deteriorated beyond repair and is presented out of a frame. The frame had last been repaired in 1937 in Belfast.
