A late 18th to early 19th century Georgian treen mahogany cat. The cat is made from three turned mahogany supports that are fixed to a central turned ball. The base has three cabriole legs with pad feet and a turned pillar to support the ball. A cat was used in the 18th and early 19th centuries as a plate or bowl stand and sometimes to hold a mirrored glass Witch's ball.
