Circa 1880, George III style mahogany and inlaid Scottish sideboard. With a raised, serpentine stage on top, a classic feature of Scottish sideboards of this period. It has a shaped front with string inlay and a box with a banded fore-edge. The main body of the sideboard has string inlay to its border and boxwood inlay on the fore-edge. There is 1 bow fronted drawer and 2 concave drawers, all with ivory heraldic escutcheons and George III style swan neck cast brass handles with circular pomels and back plates; the one to the left a double drawer and the right has 2 separate drawers. Beneath each of the drawers is a flat panel with a string inlay and a concave arch to the top with a dot. This style of inlay occurs regularly and is in the David Jones book of Scottish or Edinburgh furniture makers. Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
