Circa 1800, late George III mahogany and inlaid armchair. The chair has a curved top splat, and is rectangular with inlay. Beneath this there is a back with a diamond shaped centre and curved rail. The rails are double mahogany and curved. They overlap into each other giving it a wonderful stylised back. Beneath is a smaller splat with inlay similar to the top. This is held in place by 2 tapering bar uprights. From the top of the back the 2 shaped arms come the full length of the chair with a flat section in the centre and these are held in place by 2 urn style uprights. The armchair has a stuffover upholstered seat. As the top continues down the back the legs are square, tapering and slightly outswept. The apron of the chair is similar to that of the lower splat with double inlay and at the front the legs are turned and taper down to a finished turn toe.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
