On offer here is a lovely Edwardian English sterling silver basket, hallmarked for Birmingham 1905. The particular form of maker's mark shown here 'S.G.' is not recorded but is most likely a variation of Sebastian Garrard, a highly important maker, who used identical lettering at this stage of his career. The quality certainly suggests so. Of cartouche outline, with embossed floral decoration and pierced border, this intricately worked piece weighs just over 9 oz and measures 12.5 inches, 32 cms in length x 8.75 inches, 22 cms in width. Condition is excellent; occasional light surface scratches consistent with age. Perfect for dinner rolls or fruit at the table. A functional, quality piece of Edwardian silver that can be still used and enjoyed to-day.
