This ornate but well designed double Albert Watch Chain stands out from the run of the mill plain Albert's. All links are hallmarked for 9 carat gold, including the stylized knot spacers. It is a fixed double Albert chain, therefore the "T" bar cannot be moved along the length of either "string".
Each "string" consist's of 4 elongated oval shapes that have some engraved decoration etched upon them. These are approximately 18mm each in length. A hallmark of 9 and .375 can be seen on each length stating the gold content that has been used. Between these oval links are a set of three stylized knots. In the groups that join the links are 3 separate knots. Each again is separately hallmarked for 9 carat gold. The overall length of these fixings is 27mm.
The end of each string is different. Firstly there is a hook clasp that itself is hallmarked 9 carat gold. This is attached to the main string by 2 stylized knots and a separate connection ring. The other string has one stylized knot that fixes to a round connector. This holds a compass that comes with the chain. This can be removed if so desired. There are some marks on the outside of the compass stating that the metal is 9 carat gold. These are well rubbed. Both clasp's on the end of each string work well.
The T bar does provide more information on the piece. It is again stamped for 9 carat gold with the normal 9 and .375. It also displays an Anchor symbol, stating that this piece was assayed in Birmingham. There is also a makers mark on the T bar. This is J.M in a recessed oval. No date mark can be located. Overall a nice and unusual Albert chain the can also be used as a necklace for females.
