Circa 1900, Edwardian Sheraton style mahogany inlaid piano stool, in the form almost of a Roman X framed stool. The concave seat has handmade needlepoint and on either side are handrails which are rounded and have double string inlay, supported by eleven shaped uprights and spindles. The arms are also inlaid at the front with satinwood roundels at the top and continue down to a cross over section with a large shell in the centre. This occurs on both sides making the stool freestanding. Below this the legs are in the form of half moons. They are inlaid and finish with a slight spread on the toe. They are supported by a cross stretcher with double stretchers across the centre. Beneath the seat are also stretchers behind the fabric to make it sturdy. Very elegant stool.
