Demantoid green garnets are rare stones, coming almost exclusively from Russia, and were first mined towards the end of the 19th century, hence are mostly found in jewellery of around 1900. Many modern pieces are made from stones remounted from old itmes of jewellery. Demantoids seldom come in large sizes - a carat is unusual, and five carats very, very unusual. This ring is in the taste of the 1900s, but was actually made in 1990. The marquise-shaped demantoid is mounted within a border of eight high-quality modern brilliant cut diamonds, around 2/3 carat. The setting is 18ct white gold, and the shank 18ct yellow gold. Size K 1/2 - American size 5 1/4 - but easily re-sizeable
