Quality late Victorian coromandel perfume bottle box in fine condition. Coromandel was regarded as the Rolls Royce of veneers and tended to be used on up market items due to the cost. This particular item features the veneer to all aspects of the exterior and the carcass edging to the box interior. Aside from one VERY tiny (approximately 7mm) indentation to the edge near the front left corner all veneer is original and complete and sports the all important unspoilt patina. Original inlaid Mother of Pearl cartouche and escutcheon. Top closes square. Original brass hinges and lock in very good condition with a working key supplied. The brassware has not been cleaned and polished, the patina adding character to the item. The interior features the original green velvet lining, slightly worn but free of tears. The matching pair of perfume bottles are in extremely good condition with the stoppers fitting nicely. These perfume bottle boxes have become increasingly difficult to obtain over the past 2-3 years, those veneered with coromandel (the wood now considered extremely scarce) even more so. An excellent addition to any collection.
