An interesting British Napoleonic 1796 Pattern Cavalry Trooper’s Sword. Of typical form with stirrup hilt and part-leather covered grip. It appears that during its service life the blade has been broken in two (likely to have happened during combat) and it has been repaired with a substantial metal plate to both sides. Has been done very well so am assuming that it is a period repair – has made it robust again although am not sure how it would have faired again in battle. Comes with its original heavy steel scabbard. Maker stamped to the blade spine – Dawes Birmingham – also inspector’s stamp to ricasso. Unusual piece. Blade length is 32 inches (38 inches overall).
