Mid 1800’s brass bound mahogany gentleman’s dressing box that would make an excellent jewellery box for the man of today. The box is in very good condition with no missing or replaced wood. The protective brass corners, cartouche and escutcheon are all original and firmly fixed. Top closes square and true. Hinges and lock in very good condition with a working key supplied. Opens to reveal the original embossed leather drop forward panel to the lid interior with recess to the back to retain a mirror or it lends itself nicely to place the likes of a photograph as a finishing touch if presenting as a gift? The base section comprises of two open sections either side of a central lidded section to the left of the original tray. The tray still has all of the original side hoop handles, dividers and the original leather embossed lid with storage space beneath. The jewellery shown is not included in the sale but shown to give an idea for use as a jewellery box. The other items shown (3 glass jars, button hook, nail file, scissors, 2 cut throat razors (the latter broken blades) are included in the sale as they might be of use to anyone purchasing to restore the box contents to something similar to that which would have originally featured. Nice item with all of the original features in such fine condition.
