Superb British Victorian 1857 Pattern Royal Engineers Officer's Sword owned by Wiliam de Wiveleslie Abney who, later in his life, was one of the pioneers of photography. He was a cadet at the Royal Military Academy and joined the Royal Engineers in 1861, thereafter serving in India. Brass, scroll hilt complete with original sword knot and fishskin and copper twistwire to the grip. Blade etching is excellent and includes the owner's initials and family crest. Complete with steel scabbard. Blade length is 33 inches (39 inches overall).
