    Antique Antique Victorian Silver Plated Three Piece Tea Set c1870s

    A superbly decorated Victorian three piece electroplated nickel-silver tea set.
    Of substantial quality, with period engine turned decoration surrounding uninscribed cartouches on all three pieces.
    Very Georgian period in its design and outward appearance, only the decoration allows for assessment of its real manufacturing time.

     
    Although not bearing any markings that allows for clear attribution of the maker, I am able to state that it was made in Sheffield and judging by the marks it does bear, probably and early set from the soon to be famous Joseph Mappin of Mappin & Webb fame.
    The ovoid teapot has natural material inserts to the handle to prevent heat ransfer when in use. The carved finial is of the same material and is removable. This shows superb patina that only the fullness of time can produce.
    The jug and sugar bowl both retain their original gilded interiors.
