This is an exquisite and rare antique pair of English silver plated sauce tureens, circa 1860 in date.

These lovely sauce tureens are of the highest quality and bear the makers' mark of the renowned silversmith Elkington and Co., and the inventory number 7130.They are of oval shape and feature delightful beaded rims, elegant side handles and lids that have equivalent superb beaded handles.The pair has the Walker of Warwick family crest, (the greyhound's head erased) and the motto 'Passant Cresant en Honeur'.In excellent condition, these wonderful sauce tureens are ready to grace your dining table.A truly exquisite pair that would make a fine addition to any antique collection.Condition:In excellent condition with clear hallmarks and no dings, dents or signs of repair. was a silver manufacturer fromBirmingham, England.
The firm was founded byGeorge RichardsElkingtonand his brother, HenryElkington, in the1830s. It operated under the name G. R.Elkington& Co. until 1842, when a third partner, Josiah Mason, joined the firm. It operated asElkington, Mason, & Co. until 1861, when the partnership with Mason was terminated. The firm operated independently asElkington& Co. from 1861 until 1963. It was then taken over by British Silverware, Ltd. In 1971 British Silverware, Ltd. became a subsidiary of Delta Metal Co. Ltd.
Over the course of history it became very successful and was one of the prime producers of silver plating.Elkingtonreceived various royal warrants of appointments. One of their most famous pieces is theelectrotypecopy of theJerninghamWine Cooler, at theVictoria & Albert Museum.
