Item is in very good condition although it shows signs of visible wear on the gilt borders due to age, handling, and usage.

ITEM 1475 DESCRIPTION
Antique opaque black glass vase and cover.
Of rectangular form with domed cover and circular neck and foot.
Painted in white enamel with a Classical maiden holding an urn and with flower sprays within gilt borders.
Opaque glass is made by including metallic oxides in the molten glass and has been produced since ancient times and became very popular again in the latter part of the 19th century.
This vase is a typical example of the ares made around 1880 and similar pieces were made in various parts of Europe including France and England.
