A most attractive Late 19th Century Antique English Victorian Royal Worcester Porcelain Botanical Dessert Plate, one of six presently available, each featuring a different hand-painted floral spray set within a Rose Pompadour border heightened with gilding. This lovely colour was originally developed in the Mid 18th Century by artists at the Sevres porcelain manufactory, and named in honour of Madame de Pompadour, { Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, the Marquise de Pompadour, 1721 - 1764 }, who almost single-handedly established Sevres porcelain as the decoration of choice throughout Europe, the pompadour hairstyle having also been named after her. The reverse of this plate bearing the Royal Worcester printed backstamp in puce above the date letter M for 1877, this together with the pattern number 9427 and the Gilder's monogram SS, these latter marks in gilt figures. Width ~ 23.50 cm. / 9.25 inches ~ Year ~ Circa 1877. ~ N.B. :- This complete set of six plates may be purchased at a discounted price ~ Please email for details.
