A scarce Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Spode Blue and White Transfer Footed Low Circular Pottery Stand, { Shape No. S129 }, having a one inch deep upturned rim, perhaps originally intended for use as a cheese or fruit platter. Printed in a light blue palette in the "Castle" pattern, the scene taken from the aquatint, "The Gate of Sebastian at Capena", contained in "Views of Rome and it's Vicinity", published by J. Merigot, 28 Haymarket and R. Edwards, 142 New Bond Street, London, in 1796 - 98, this set within a foliate border which is repeated around the outside of the rim. The reverse with underglaze blue printed upper case SPODE mark, together with an impressed upper case SPODE mark, the impressed numeral 16 and a further underglaze blue potter's mark, the deep footring with a small old bruise.
