This gorgeous early Victorian antique Partners desk is crafted from beautiful flame mahogany and dates from Circa 1850.

It features a striking emerald green leather top that has beautiful hand tooled gilt impressed decoration. It is raised on four legs that are elegantly turned and reeded and they terminate in theiroriginal brass castors.It is a Partners desk and has six frieze drawers, three on each side. They are solid mahogany lined, have hand cut dovetails and are perfectly sized for all the stationary you could possibly need, making this desk not just a symbol of refinement but a practical furnishing as well.It is finished on all sides so that it can stand freely in the middle of a room, making it extremely suitable for a large home or office.Condition:In excellent condition having been beautifully cleaned, polished, waxed and releathered in our workshops. Flame Mahogany
Thomas Sheraton-18thcentury furniture designer, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany."The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.
