This is a lovely piece of history a A Victorian Wilkinson's Sample,

This was somebody in the factory testing out a new stamp or practicing his stamp skills, he may have been a new employee or they were testing a new glaze or firing technique, these items rarely survived as they were usually smashed after the testing process, maybe this person wanted to take their efforts home to shown the other half.

Whatever the story behind this piece it is a very interesting item to own.
