Antique A Leaf from L’Histoire Du Vieux Et Du Nouveau Testament By Nicholas Fontaine (Pseudonymn:Sieur de Royaumont)

Nicolas Fontaine (1625-1709) was a French theologian, translator and poet. He composed the History of the Old and New Testament with the help of his friend Louis-Isaac Lemaistre de Sacy while the two were imprisoned in the Bastille. He was arrested for heresy and wrote this book while imprisoned.

This leaf is based in a story from Genesis. Sarah, Abraham’s wife, was childless. God promised Abraham that she would be “a mother of nations” and that she would conceive and bear a son, but Sarah did not believe this. He sent angels to Abraham with this message. The promise of a son was fulfilled some 25 years later. This son was Isaac. Abraham kept his faith during this time that God would deliver on his promise.
