A superb quality mid 19th Century freestanding burr walnut desk / cabinet, the top section having two arched paneled doors opening to reveal four drawers at the centre made out of sycamore, the drawer fronts having ebonised handles, four compartments above with carved fret decoration and a larger compartment either side of the drawers, either side of the doors, and on the bottom section as well, are turned and carved columns, the bottom section having a paneled front along with the sides and back, the front of the cabinet having a frieze drawer which pulls out to reveal a green leather lift up writing slope, pen tray and various compartments, the left hand side of the desk has a paneled door opening to reveal a fixed single shelf inside and has a blue velvet lined interior, the right hand side of the desk has a paneled door opening to reveal four mahogany lined drawers with original brass handles, standing on a plinth base. This desk is in excellent condition and has a lovely warm walnut colour to it. Circa 1860.
