A fine quality 19th Century Burgundy Morocco Leather Despatch Box originally the property of David Douglas (1823-1916), the noted Edinburgh book publisher*, whose name, together with the city, is embossed on the bevelled top. It has a substantial top mounted swing handle and a working lock stamped Bramah London, and key, and it opens on sturdy 90º hinges revealing the leather lined interior with raised sides and stability studs. The box is in good, sound, well-used condition.
