very fine sterling silver 6 cup egg cruet

Breakfast in style with this very fine Victorian sterling silver egg cruet, bearing 6 sterling silver egg cups with gilt interiors, and a pugilistic lion crest, all hallmarked for London 1846, maker most likely Samson Wertheimer, a noted smalls worker who regularly exhibited quality pieces at international exhibitions. This cruet, which measures 8 inches, 21 cms in height and weighs around 30 oz., comes in lovely condition, commensurate with age; the only real evidence of use being slight knocks to some of the rims on some of the egg cups and the usual fine scratches; nothing to detract from the quality or practical use and enjoyment of this piece. Variations of this crest are shared by a number of families; but this particular one appears to be that of either Cozens or Kyle (see Fairbairn's Book of Crests plate 3.3).
