Circa 1890, good set of 6 Adams style mahogany dining chairs comprising 2 armchairs and 4 side chairs. The chairs with their stepped back and a wonderful central splat depicting an urn with swags and tails surmounted by a plume of Prince of Wales feathers. The urn is contained within 2 tapering uprights and held with a cross stretcher beneath. From the uprights the 2 elegant shaped arms come forward and are held in place by a rectangular urn shaped upright, which tapers to the underside of the arm. The chairs have stuffover seats with close brass studding (needs re-upholstering). Below the seat at the front and the side there is a small fielded panel and beneath this on the front there are sturdy square and tapering legs with a framed section on the front and outside edge. At the base of this there is a square block and beneath a simple rectangular raised toe. The back legs are square, tapering and outswept. The chairs are stylish and sturdy.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
