rare pair georgian regency basting stuffing spoons

On offer here is a very nice and rare pair of Regency sterling silver fiddle pattern basting or stuffing spoons hallmarked for Thomas Purver, London, 1814. These spoons, which measure 31 cms (12 inches) in length and weigh 270g combined, come in very good condition, commensurate with age; no faults. Basting spoons have of course been used throughout the ages to scoop up meat juices and spread them over meat as it is cooking to ensure the meat browns; and are still used for that purpose to-day, though plenty of other uses for these large spoons in the kitchen can be envisaged; particularly stuffing that Christmas or thanksgiving turkey.
