Circa 1860, mid Victorian mahogany open bookcase of generous proportions. The stylish one piece cornice has an angular shape, beading and a simple apron. Beneath this are four turnings which sit on the facings or pilasters on the front of the bookcase. On the right and left hand side are sections with 3 adjustable shelves, and the centre has a large section with 3 adjustable shelves also. Beneath the top is a moulded edge or plate which the top sits on and a small shelf with a moulded edge. Beneath this are four similar carvings to that of the top. On the bottom section on the left and right is another open section with a single adjustable shelf and in the centre one large adjustable shelf. The mouldings on the front also run around the sides of the bookcase. Beneath the bottom shelf is a moulded edge and the whole piece stands on an enclosed plinth. Great size, good colour and excellent condition.
