Circa 1740, very stylish George II carved walnut armchair. The classic back has a shaped top rail with a paper fold in the centre, above a wonderful open vase splat with carved swags, flower heads and leaves. From the uprights protrude two stylish curvaceous arms held in place by simple uprights with a concave sweep. The seat has a drop in pad and beneath this is a stylish shaped apron with a carved flower head. The chair stands on two cabriole legs at the front with foliate carved knees and finishing on ball and claw feet, and outswept square chamfered legs at the back which are united by a small stretcher. Wonderful colour and patination.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
